A rare departure for us at Fourbass Music, a serious quartet volume. These two quartets arae arrangements of early works for string quartet written whilst Sullivan was studying at Leipzig. These works were thought lost until being discovered in the 1990's in an Oxford music shop. The Romance is dedicated to his mother.
 
Romantic in style and reminds one of the first movement of the Mendelsson octet.
